Naturopathy is an umbrella term that encompasses multiple forms of complementary and natural medicines.
Naturopaths aim to rebalance body chemistry so as to allow natural healing to occur, and are useful for consulting on a wide range of chronic and acute conditions.

We assess the underlying cause of disease and draw on a variety of sources to assist rapid, gentle healing.
Naturopathic principles
1. The healing power of nature
This is an ongoing dynamic process. The body and mind are constantly responding to external stimuli and many of the physiological responses remain unnoticed. When you are sick is when you notice your body the most. Symptoms are your evidence that the body is trying to heal itself. When symptoms are prolonged or cause discomfort you need to seek relief. Symptoms guide us toward the most suitable treatment.
2. Do no harm
A full consultation is usually necessary to gather information about your situation. Information will be provided to help you in the decision making process but always I will use the most gentle, effective method of treatment for your circumstances. It may at times be necessary to refer you on to other practitioners and I encourage an open working relationship with your general practitioner at all times.
3. Find the cause
As a naturopath I refer to your medical history and family medical history in the information gathering stage. It is important that you provide as much detailed information as possible, including test results you have already received. Identifying and removing the cause of illness are important steps in the healing process.
4. Treat the whole person
Quite often people present with multiple problems. To begin with, we'll work on a treatment plan that addresses all of your needs. This could mean we focus on a single issue at a time, but always we will be working toward resolving the entire picture.
5. Educate and encourage responsibility for health
"Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity" as defined by the World Health Organisation. There are no magic pills or potions. Quite often pharmaceutical medications are essential to manage disease, and a well trained naturopath will know to avoid prescribing remedies that may interact with what you're already taking. Good health is an active process that involves personal responsibility combined with proactive management.
6. Prevention is the best cure
It is difficult to be healthy when you are in an unhealthy environment and so assessment of what is unhealthy is important. At Natural Abundance Health we focus on sorting out the internal, by reducing the impact of the external. A healthy mind is a part of the process; ensuring that the nervous and immune systems, as well as the body's elimination pathways are all working as best they can, will help your body to defend itself.
